Kal Chatti or Makkalchatti is a pot or stone cookware handmade by carving soapstones. This traditional cookware was used among various parts of India. Still, there are people in the states of India are using Kal Chatti for primary cooking.
These traditional Kal Chatti used to make sambar, curries, keerai kootu ,aviyal, vatha kuzhambu,paruppu urundai kuzhambu etc.

Initially, these Kal Chattis from Soapstone s grey in color. After performing seasoning and cooking for a while, these vessels turn black.
The main specialty of this stone kitchenware cooking is that it happens slowly and evenly. All the ingredients and vegetables in the stoneware cook equally.
You can switch off the flame 5 mins before the dish is done because stoneware retain heat for a long time even after the flame is stopped so it will continue to cook the dish that may affect the taste and texture of the food.
These Kal Chattis also available in various sizes and shapes. The smaller ones can be used to make curd, store pickles, etc.
Usage:
As already seasoned for 10 days, this Seasoned Kal Chatti can be placed on the gas burner directly but with water or vegetables.
You must not put the empty Kal Chaati to the flame.
Turn off the oven five minutes before cooking is done. Or turn down the flame at a low level once the vessel gets heated.
Purpose:
For making sambar, curries, keerai kootu ,aviyal, vatha kuzhambu,paruppu urundai kuzhambu etc.
