Araignan Kodi or Araijan Kayiru or Aranjanam is a girdle-like jewelry tied around the waist of the little ones. It can be made of a thick thread called erukkan kodi. But nowadays people are using this kodi made of gold and silver. The main purpose of this kodi is to measure the growth of their children with the increase of waistline. Just like women use it to protect the folds of a sari, the aranjam can also be used to fasten the cloth on the waist.
According to the religious belief, they say that this araignan kodi may safeguard their children from evil spirits. In India, it is worn when you are a child and will not be removed even if you become an adult.Â
