It is without thorns or tendrils; leaves very shortly petioled, elliptic, acute, glabrous, membranaceous, five- and almost penninerved; corymbs axillary, opposite, shorter than the leaf; corolla hirsute within; berry one-seeded; flowers greenish-yellow, fragrant. It is found on the Coromandel coast, the Concans, and the western Ghauts, flowering in April.
The seeds powder, mixed with honey, are applied to boils to hasten suppuration. Powder with milk used in sore eyes. The seeds are used as a natural remedy for diabetes, and they are mentioned in the Taleef Shereef as useful in gonorrhoea, etc. Their chief use, however, consists in their application to the clearing of muddy water.
Health Benefits
At a very early age, the fruit is transferred into a safe manner and eaten. But the fruit, which is now maturing, is given to about half a teaspoon of powder in the name of emetics by Tamil doctors in South India. Its seeds are used for the removal of dried mud.
This means that the seeds should be rubbed around the inside of the pot with water for a while and then poured into it and let it remain for some time. After a certain period of time, the contaminants abate and the water becomes clear, tasty, and healthy.
This practice is practiced by the authorities, the soldiers, the passersby in a forest, all those who drink healthy water in many difficult situations. The fact that the tree grows much larger than Nux vomica is not very common. It is the only plant found in the mountains and forests and its main characteristic is that it only blooms during the hot season.
This is different in appearance, though it is similar to the Nux vomica, which means that the News Vomica has many seeds but the Clearing Nut fruit contains only one seed. The wood is hard and durable and is used not only for medical use but also for various economic purposes.
The seed has a wide lenticular structure, which is about a quarter-inch thick and half an inch in diameter. The seeds are powdered and mixed with honey and used for quick treatment of wounds. These seeds are used as a remedy for diabetes.
