Description

Large Caltrops belong to the botanical family Pedalium Murex which is a shrubby herb that comes with the stiff-stemmed herb. This perennial herbal tree native to India that is widely cultivated for numerous medicinal purposes and other uses. This diffuse annual plant can grow up to 75 cm of length, and this much-branched, spreading plant has a succulent root. Furthermore, its glandular produces an ideal secretion that has a variety of medicinal properties.

Its succulent root is similar to turmeric plant in terms of color, structure, and more. Its 1cm to 4.5 cm long leaves are very normal in the appearance and located opposite to each other, and those are oblong-obovate or ovate shape. These are actually irregular in shape and included with coarse crenate-serrate. It produces yellow color flowers that measure about 1.5 cm to 2 cm across, and it has 1 mm to 2 mm long stalk.

The fruits of this plant are up to 4 mm in length, in addition, it has sepals with 2mm length. Theses linear sepals are very persistent, has scaly outside, and teeth-like shape. The petals of its flower fused into a broad tube that has 1cm to 3 cm length. The seeds of its fruits are actually a four-angled seed that comes with 5 extremely sharp spines. The leaves of this plant are used as an important famine food.
