Description

Arasam Maram is a large semi-evergreen or dry-season deciduous tree that grows up to 30 m tall, and the trunk has up to 3 m diameters. The scientific name of this tree is Ficus religiosa and the leaves of the tree have a cordate shape that contains a distinctive extended drip tip. The bark is a flat surface, and slightly curved that has a 1 to 2.5 cm thickness.

The outer surface of the bark is brown or ash color, and it is uneven. The inner surface of this bark is a smooth, brown color. The bark contains Tannis, and it is used to treat many diseases. Each part of the tree, such as leaves, seeds, bark, shoot, and fruit, has different medicinal properties in Ayurvedic treatments. It has been used to cure various diseases since ancient times.
