Marapachi Bommai or Marapachi dolls are traditional wooden dolls that are carved from wood by our local artisans. The color of the wood may be dark red or black. These dolls are displayed during the Golu festival in South India. They are seen as an avatar of Lord Vishnu and his consort Goddess Lakshmi in that function.
During that festival, these dolls are traditionally gifted to small girls by their mothers. It is also a part of the Navaratri celebration or Dassara.
