Description
These leaves are generally called the curry leaves, although it is also defined as literallsweet neem leaves in most Indian languages. The native of this herbal plant is South Asia, these leaves are used for many dishes in India, Sri Lanka, and other neighboring countries.
This is the fresh herb that comes from the curry tree. The botanical name of this curry leaf is Murraya Koenigii, it is the part of the Rutaceae family that also includes citrus. It is a small tree that grows up to 4-6 m height. The diameter of this tree trunk is up to 40 cm.
These aromatic leaves are pinnate with 11-21 leaflets, each leaflet has 2-4 cm length, and 1-2 cm width. This plant has the small white flowers which can self-pollinate to produce small shiny-black berries containing a single, large viable seed. The berry pulp is sweet with the medicinal flavor. Neither is pulp or seeds of this tree is used for culinary purposes.
